Self-employed to employed

Self-employed to employed

I’m switching from self-employed to employed. Can I get a mortgage straightaway?

The challenge

Our client, an IT specialist had recently decided to leave self-employment for an employed IT role in a position he couldn’t pass up. However he also needed to move and required a mortgage.

The solution

A number of lenders can consider people who are moving jobs, and that includes people moving from self-employment to employment.

A number of lenders may need one month’s paylip, but there are others who are happy to consider in advance of the switch with a signed contract, and as long as the role is the same or similar, and in line with earnings.

After thought

The common misconception on anyone moving roles is that you need to have been in the current role for a certain period of time.

With some lenders that is correct, but there are a number of others who will look at this differently. We are here to help navigate the many lenders criteria to help you.

David was absolutely amazing, from helping us find the right mortgage, to advising us, to being on hand for silly questions we had. Nothing was too much trouble for him. I will absolutely be recommending him to our friends.
